Before founding MCART in 1997, Randy worked with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), BioSystems Books, Inc., and the University of California. Randy is behind the design and planning of multiple pharmaceutical donation programs used to manage donations of HIV/AIDS related products to Africa and Least Developed Countries (LDCs): Boehringer-Ingelheim: The Viramune® Donation Programme, 2000; Abbott Laboratories: The Access to HIV Care Program, 2001; Pfizer: The Diflucan Partnership Programme,2002; Abbott Laboratories: The PMTCT Testing / Determine Donation Program, 2002; Gilead Sciences: Access Program, 2003; Abbott / Boehringer-Ingelheim PMTCT Donations Program, 2003.

His scientific research was influential in raising support for federal protective legislation for Rana aurora draytonii, an endangered species of frog in California, often cited for use as a indicator species for environmental degradation. Recent projects in the humanitarian sector include WorldWideVolunteer.org, a focus site for volunteerism and Information and communication technologies (ICTs), created in light of the World Summit on the Information Society. He has also worked directly with the United Nations (UNCTAD).
